Al Gore (news - web sites) emerged from political obscurity yesterday, however briefly, to endorse the presidential candidacy of former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean (news - web sites).
"We need to remake the Democratic Party," said the former vice president. "We need to remake America."
Gore traveled to Harlem to do the deed, in the process dissing Democratic powerhouse Rep. Charlie Rangel and much of the city's black political establishment - early and enthusiastic supporters of Dean rival Gen. Wesley Clark (news - web sites).
The Dean campaign has been deemed lacking in persons of color, and Bill Clinton (news - web sites)'s veep is and always was an accomplished pander-bear.
