WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush made a round of Christmas Eve calls to soldiers in hot spots and other posts around the world on Tuesday, thanking them for their service "in defense of freedom."

"His message was to express his appreciation and that of the American people for the sacrifices they are making in the defense of freedom," White House spokesman Scott Stenzel told reporters.

Bush called nine soldiers from all five branches of the U.S. military, stationed in posts including Bosnia, Afghanistan, Alaska, South Korea and on vessels at sea, Stenzel said.

I agree with that Finman....

President Bush is treated like a Rock Star every time he visits a military base,Its really a neat site,all our troops jumping over themselves to get a picture of President Bush our to shake his hand.Really cool.

Every time I see W visit a military base I am reminded of how proud I am, not only of our troops but of our President....

Part of the adoration our military personal have for President Bush has to be due to the fact that Bill Clinton is no longer there Cammander and cheif.
I Recall reading a story about W`s first visit to a military base after he was sworn in and one soldiers comment was"Oh my God! Clinton/Gore are finally gone!I cant beleive it,thank God!"

Then there was the visit to westpoint when President Bush was shaking the hands of all the recent graduates and this black officer walks up to him and instead of shaking his hand just gives W a huge hug,the officer had tears in his eyes you could feel what he was thinking without him saying a word, it was "Oh my God! Clinton/Gore are finally gone!I cant beleive it,thank God!"

I still remember the first time Clinton
exited "Chopper 1" at the White House ....
didn't even give the Marine at the base of the steps a proper salute ... he reached out to shake his hand .... you're not supposed to touch those white gloves , you moroon .....
so , the Clintons slapped our servicemen/women since day 1 ...... no class .....
