Papers: Cheney Aide Says Bush OK'd Leak

Yahoo News/Associated Press
By PETE YOST, Associated Press Writer
April 6, 2006

[Excerpt]

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney's former top aide told prosecutors President Bush authorized the leak of sensitive intelligence information about Iraq, according to court papers filed by prosecutors in the CIA leak case.

Before his indictment, I. Lewis Libby testified to the grand jury investigating the CIA leak that Cheney told him to pass on information and that it was Bush who authorized the disclosure, the court papers say. According to the documents, the authorization led to the July 8, 2003, conversation between Libby and New York Times reporter Judith Miller.

There was no indication in the filing that either Bush or Cheney authorized Libby to disclose Valerie Plame's CIA identity.

But the disclosure in documents filed Wednesday means that the president and the vice president put Libby in play as a secret provider of information to reporters about prewar intelligence on Iraq.

The authorization came as the Bush administration faced mounting criticism about its failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, the main reason the president and his aides had given for going to war.

Lincoln got us into the Civil War, with the purpose of saving the Union or did he? When it came time to the Emancipation Proclamation, many of the North thought that Lincoln switched war aims from saving the Union to abolishing slavery which appalled many of them, same thing with the Copperheads today. The WMDs aren't just the main reason, what about the terrorist connections? What about freeing Iraqis? Unfortunately it seems like there is always a "main reason to go to war" and not a bunch of reasons but myopic people are easy to spot. As it is, much like Lincoln, Bush might do something to find Saddam's WMDs in Syria and prove that his war aims are all on sight, much as the same thing with Lincoln. The reason why I use Lincoln so much, is because we are studying him in History class and there are so many parallels between him and President Bush, in fact I think that President Bush is Lincoln reincarnated and it kept on reminding me, along with making me laugh, about the Democrats today, and the Democrats yesterday. I find it funny how AP articles always have "no WMDs as the main cause" at the end of a lot of articles about Iraq, no wonder some call the Media biased to the Left. I wonder what the AP would be like during the Civil War, actually.

"In the Wilderness, Grant fought another big battle, which Lincoln OKed. This happened with mounting Anti-War criticism in the North about winning the war, and saving the Union, which is the main cause that Lincoln had given for going to war"
