LOS ANGELES - More than 1 million mostly Hispanic immigrants and their supporters skipped work and took to the streets Monday, flexing their economic muscle in a nationwide boycott that succeeded in slowing or shutting many farms, factories, markets and restaurants.
From Los Angeles to Chicago, Houston to Miami, the "Day Without Immigrants" attracted widespread participation despite divisions among activists over whether a boycott would send the right message to Washington lawmakers considering sweeping immigration reform.
"We are the backbone of what America is, legal or illegal, it doesn't matter," said Melanie Lugo, who with her husband and their third-grade daughter joined a rally of some 75,000 in Denver. "We butter each other's bread. They need us as much as we need them."
Here
No....the backbone of America has always been its people who work hard, appreciate and show respect.
Today's "Day Without Immigrants" was nothing more than a concerted effort to scare our lawmakers into submission. I sincerely hope it doesn't happen.

What I found funny were Mexican bodega's in mexican areas shutting thier doors for the day.
Hmmm you came here to work, so you close your own shops in protest of the BIG BAD BUSH(who is giving them what they want yet they are protesting him)?
Yea that is going to hurt my wallet, oh that's right it won't since I never shopped in your stores anyway.
Wouldn't it have more sense to stay open and possibly stick it to GRINGO?

The funnier part is that in the American Thinker, one local from LA commented on how traffic lessened quite a bit yesterday.
Less Traffic
I have a friend from LA that said Downtown was hellish due to them closing all the protests. I think these protests are really to scare people into submitting to them. I think that will really backfire.

So, I have to ask, does that mean that we can impose "A Day Without Pandering To Illegals" and take one day to deny illegal immigrants medical care, welfare, education (including free and reduced lunches) and such; just to remind ourselves how much money we'd save without them? Granted, I haven't done the research, but I would think that the amount they contribute is at least matched, if not exceeded by, the amount they are costing us.
I seriously hope the leaders of this country have the cajones to stand up to this childish bullying by a bunch of people who entered our country illegally and are residing here illegally. Yesterday's one-million person protest was a perfect chance to round 'em up and dump them south of the border.

You know giving amnesty, etc to these illegals is a bad idea, because the Mexican President, Vicente Fox, supports it! LOL!

A local activist on TV last night , after it was obvious their great day of shutting down America was nothing more than a pimple on Kennedy's fat butt changed the reason for the protest to one of "informing" Americans ...
the night before , the same person was predicting all kinds of hardships and chaos ...

My favorite burrito shop was open. Talk about hard work, the guy opened a small store and I used to eat there 4 times a week. The line would be out the door, best burritos ever made, all super fresh vegies and meat, cooked with no-fat PAM spray. Yumm Yummm oh and the size of the burritos are huge.
After 1 year of being open, he moved out of the smaller store to a much larger store, in the same town, and he opened a second shop about 15 miles away.
But hard work doesn't equal success in this country of course as we told by the libs.

Of course, this finger pointing idiot is showing the right way to endear himself to all Americans - shirt provided by Acorn.
Dunno. I make a pretty mean burrito without his help.
I have a dream too. It doesn't include suporting illegal aliens by providing them free medical care, schooling, etc.
Vote? Nope.
It's estimated that 300,000-350,000 anchor babies are born each year in California alone.
Peruse this eye opening article

It certainly would cost us less if we deported illegals. Yes, I have a healthy respect for those who truly wish to live here - we are a nation that is envied throughout the world because anything is possible here. But enough is enough.
I'm also very close to having a chat with my Monsignor. I'm growing weary of homilies these days which include references to the Statue of Liberty. I plan on giving him an earful and I am going to ask him how our church plans on providing for illegals - as if my tax dollars aren't enough.
Yes, I'm cynical and fed up.

It just bugs me that they think they should be allowed to get around the system. I think I've mentioned before on a previous thread about my college friend who is a Japanese citizen but came to University here and is now working in LA and trying to get a permanent work Visa to stay here. It's a nightmare, even with her company sponsoring her! And she's hard-working, went to school here, speaks FLAWLESS english, loves America, and is trying to actively contribute to America by actually working in a normal job.
But these immigrants just think they should be allowed to flounce over the border and just be given full citizenship just because "they're here". Shut up! Argh!
If they give them Amnesty, my friend should sue the Gov't (can you do that?), at least take it to court. If they're going to give citizenship/amnesty to illegal immigrants, they should have to give citizenship to legal ones as well (even more so since they are actually trying to follow the law instead of willfully breaking it), and that's a heck of a lot more than the 12 million they think they're dealing with.
