My President Reagan Story

I was brought up a Democrat, my parents were Democrats and their parents were Democrats. In 1980 I turned 18 and I voted for Jimmy Carter. I didn't know anything about politics only that I thought I was a Democrat.

It didn't take very long until I realized that I was really a conservative Republican. It was President Reagan that changed me over and by 1984 I couldn't wait to vote for him. I say he changed me over but that's not really true, I always believed that way but thought that's what a Democrat was. Boy was I ever wrong. Not only are they not like what I thought, but they are the exact opposite.

I have been really disappointed with the way our great country is going now days. I often find President Reagan's speeches and listen to them to hear his words of wisdom. It is really cool to hear him take on the same issues that we are dealing with today and to hear his common sense approach.

So when you get depressed about whats going on, go and find his speeches and I promise you it will pick you up.

...Randy-welcome to the board.

Oddly-President Carter (and later Clinton) made a lot of Democrats realize that they are really conservatives, and hence Republicans.

President Reagan, by his optimism, undying belief in American exceptionalism, and determination to defeat (not "get along with") the USSR, spoke for all of us.

I don't share the belief America is heading toward a dark tomorrow, despite the poor leadership we've chosen. We've been down before-but we're up to the challenge.

Keep the faith...

Welcome, Randy! I wasn't around during Reagan's presidency, but I do listen to his speeches to help boost my hope. Reagan is my hero because of his great values and beliefs.

I was also a democrat when I did'nt know any better. I started paying attention and realized that I was anything but a dumbocrat. Living in Massachusetts I find it extremely difficult to find people with any common sense. I'm addicted to anything by President Reagan and am always uplifted by his speeches, when I read his autobiography I could not put it down
