Was Reagan wrong about Hispanics?
I came across an interesting quote that Reagan supposedly said when I found this Reagan poster.
I wish he was right, but given that most Mexicans vote Democrat, it looks like the Gipper was wrong.
Or do you think they will still flip to the conservative side eventually?
It seems like the immigration issue is killing us.

Granted, there are always the small minority that vote Republican, but it is true that the vast majority of Hispanics vote Democrat. That being said, not exactly if a large portion will switch sides. One thing for sure is that the immigration issue is killing us.

I fail to see where Reagan was wrong, "yet" being the key word.
In 1984, Reagan won 32% of the Latino vote. Dubya won 40% in 2000 and 44% in 2004. See the trend?
If the immigration issue were that big of a deal, why did the Latino vote trend upward for Dubya considering the push for stricter immigration controls during Dubya's term?
Remember this......The Left regularly gives "advice" to Republicans on how they should be in order to get more votes. Why is the Left trying to be so "helpful"?
My suspicion is that things aren't always as the Left and the MSM make them out to be.
Latinos live their lives more conservatively than they vote. It is up to the GOP to tap into that. Failure to do that doesn't mean that Reagan was wrong but rather the GOP is lazy.

Good point - same is to be said for black conservatives - the press continues to work hard to insist that any african american conservative is an "uncle tom" - the libs are scared for minorities to wake up and see today's democrat party for what it really is.
"Why - mexicans and african american's couldn't possible by voting republican - if they are something must be wrong with them..."
- sounds like manipulatiion and/or intimidation to me!

I just think we need to articulate the immigration issue better. I think we need to constantly remind people that it's not immigrants we are mad at (most of them just come here for opportunity) but it's the federal government we are mad at for not protecting the border, which leaves open to gangs/terrorists/potential disease, and for running a welfare state, which can attract bad apples.

One of Dubyas strengths while on the stump, both times, happened to be dealing with Latinos, he spoke fluent spanish, governed a border state and had established a report and was quite well known for that, I am somewhat surprised he was at 40%, while not bad for any gop candidate I had envisioned it higher.
One thing the left has always done and continues to do is paint a broad spectrum of conservatives being racist, when in fact the ugly head of that biased body has been swiveling atop the left for over a century now.
