Lucky me!
I voted for the first time when I lived in California, back in 1980. I was 18 yrs old. My Dad had gotten me some literature on the election. I was excited! I had notice the country in decline from the time Jimmy Carter became President, and I wanted to do my part.
Back then, people still dressed to go someone, well, we got dressed, and my Dad knocked on my bedroom door, to tell me we were ready to go vote. My Dad said to me.."I am not going to tell you who to vote for...but I want you to know that your Mother and I are voting for Ronnie"
It was like my Mom and Dad knew Ronald Reagan personally. They did not of course, but my parents truely loved that man. He was a man of such integrity, and intelligence. My parents raised us to believe that we were responsible for our actions..that there were consequences. They struggled at times, but never asked for anything from anyone....but yet they gave so much.
I am lucky to have had those values taught to me...and I am lucky to say that the first presidental election I voted in, was for the greatest
president this country has ever seen. Will we ever be so fortunate as a country to have such a man again?....I fear not. We must hold on to our values and what we learned from that wonderful leader.
Blessings!
