Dick Morris: Court Decision Could Come Back toHaunt Obama

President Barack Obama’s big win with the Supreme Court could come back to bitehim at the election, political guru Dick Morris told Newsmax within minutes ofthe court decision being announced.

Now that the only way to get rid of Obama’s healthcare overhaul is via theballot box, it could persuade more people to turn out and vote against him inNovember, Morris said in an exclusive interview.

Morris, a former political advisorto President Bill Clinton who is now a Fox News analyst, pointed out that pollshave shown roughly 55 percent of voters oppose Obamacare with 40 percentsupporting it, even though the president holds a slight lead over Republicanchallenger Mitt Romney in head-to-head surveys.

“The Supreme Court has spoken,” said Morris. “This means the only way we canoverturn this obnoxious law is by defeating Obama and capturing the Senate.

“So this really puts Obamacare front and center as the leading issue in the2012 campaign. In a real sense it makes the 2012 campaign a carbon copy of the2010 campaign — and we all know how that turned out.”

He said in the short term that could give the president the edge as voterssupport him because the law has been ruled constitutional, but by the timeNovember rolls around he predicted “the fundamental economics of the law willlead to its rejection by a very large majority.”

“The Supreme Court did not let Obama off the hook,” Morris said. “By the timethe election comes around, it could be lethal.

“The decision makes Obamacare a tax increase that fallsprimarily on young people and poor people who can’t afford it. With theMedicaid provisions struck down, government will not be there to help middleand low-income families who have to pay a huge percentage of their income forinsurance or pay a large fine.

“That is not politically attractive, which is why Obama postponed the effectivedate of this law until after the election.”
