The Contempt of Congress phase has started.
I. Contempt of Congress
Yesterday started the initial push to bring an official vote of contempt of Congress against Attorney General Eric Holder. This recent development comes after an extended conflict has been brewing between the Department of Justice and Congress in regards to an investigation into the politically motivated gun running scheme commonly referred to as “Operation Gun Runner”. This entire fiasco represents just how lawless things have become in this nation, and it represents a tragic development for our nation.
The Attorney General, for nearly two years, has been obstructing justice. He has done so by purposefully hiding documents in relation to a governmental operation which directly resulted in Mexican drug cartels acquiring fire arms. The government program was designed with the purpose of framing the private ownership of firearms in general, and the Second Amendment specifically, in a bad light.
Operation Gun Runner clearly demonstrates the lengths to which the anti gun movement in this country is willing to go. It is obvious that they do not care about the innocent lives lost. Bryan Terry’s family deserves better than what they are receiving at the hands of this government, and all of the families of the Mexican citizens, who have been killed for an asinine political message deserve better than this. Furthermore, We the People of the United States of America deserve better than this!
Pushing one’s political agenda over the value of human life is not only destructive, it is also morally reprehensible. This outrage needs to be addressed, and Congress has finally taken the first step towards addressing this bold-faced attack upon human decency by the administration. Of course, these developments may turn into even bigger problems for the President.
II. Executive Privilege.
The Obama administration has been quick to claim that the over 70,000 documents, that Representative Issa of California has requested, are protected by Executive Privilege. The media is quickly scrambling to claim that invoking the privilege is something that past presidents have done frequently. Indeed, they gleefully point to the number of times that George W. Bush invoked Executive Privilege. This is all well and good, except for the fact that American lives were lost on American soil; and for the fact that the primary purpose of this governmental action was for the sole purpose of subverting the Constitution of the United States.
The Democrats should be well aware of the fact that Executive Privilege is NOT absolute. After all, their favorite example of “scandal”, Richard Nixon, learned this the hard way, with respect to the White House tapes, which he claimed were privileged. The Supreme Court has held that the Executive Privilege is not absolute, and will be pierced when matters of great public importance, and National Security are at stake. I believe it is safe to say here, that the United States government putting firearms in the hands of known Mexican drug cartel member’s hands, is a matter affecting national security.
Despite the overwhelming evidence that Mr. Holder is attempting to hide something, the Democrats in Congress still wanted to play politics. This is clear from the feigned outrage and “offense” that certain members of that party took in regards to the vote from Issa’s committee. What is worse, is the fact that all 17 Democrat members of that committee voted against holding the Attorney General in contempt. Just how little do the lives of two Border Patrol Agents mean to these corrupt politicians?
It is truly sickening to see what little regard these members of Congress hold American lives in. Furthermore, it demonstrates just how wedded to their political ideology they really are. They refuse to divorce themselves from political ideology to get to the heart of the truth. That is something which is unforgivable.
III. Full House of Representatives Contempt Vote.
The push to hold Attorney General Holder in contempt of Congress has started in the committee, but it must still go for a vote before the entire House of Representatives. Speaker Boehner has stated that the House will vote on the matter sometime next week. We should all hope that this measure of contempt will pass, and it should, as it only requires a simple majority vote. That being said, I wonder if any Republican will break rank? They may, but I hope that they do not.
We the people deserve to know the truth! After all, it is our tax payer dollars that funded this deceitful operation, and therefore, it was also our tax payer dollars that backed the death of two fine American citizens, who were working to protect our Border, something that not even this administration is willing to do!
It is truly shocking just how lawless this administration really is. While Congress may hold Holder in contempt, it is clear that Holder, as well as the entire Democrat Party, surely seems to hold the American People in contempt. Obama has done everything in his power to weaken the other branches of government. He has done everything in his power to circumvent the balance of power, as our Founding Fathers established. The separation of powers what put into place by our Founding Fathers with the explicit purpose of preventing the government from encroaching upon our liberties. Here we are nearly two-and-a-half centuries later, witnessing the purposeful destruction of the framework that was established to protect us.
We should all be outraged by this development. We should all voice our disgust at what is becoming of our great nation! This is more the intolerable, it is an illegal government out of control, and American Citizens are paying with their lives! Congress is not the only one who should hold Mr. Holder in contempt, each and every one of us, individually, should hold him in contempt as well!
