Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA), has joined those in Congress who realize they gave away their share of the coming war in Iraq's limelight by authorizing the president to use whatever force necessary to destroy Al-Qaeda.

Specter is urging we go to the UN for authorization first, and is backed up by Senator Bob Graham (D-FL).

This is the topic of former SecState Baker's New York Times op-ed.

We analyze why Baker and other Bush 41 guys like Larry Eagleburger and Brent Scowcroft might be taking this strange stance with the opposition to Bush 43 in the stories linked below.

As for Congress, I think we have a possible CYC (Cover Your Clymer) going on.

I'm sick of this moral equivalence business.

Waiting and appeasement is what Europe always does, and the result are your Hitlers, Milosevics, Stalins - and piles of bodies that reach up to the sky.

Those are the kinds of allies we have.

These people say, "We need NATO," but the United States of America is NATO!

The Europeans have proven that they can't defend themselves from anyone who has a bad attitude and a couple of tanks.

With that said, once the move is made, this opposition from the allies will quickly melt - at least from the UK - and they will join us because they have no choice.

The Brits are afraid to talk about their immigration problem, because a lot of the people they're letting in are from the Muslim world.

Don't think for a minute that these EU nations ascribe to some pure, pacifist ideology: it's all about money.

They're running the sanctions to keep that evil dictator in power, and they know if we clean him out, the world will find out just how snuggly in bed they've been with ol' Saddam.

This may be hard to believe because these liberals around the world have made you think they don't care about money, but they care about it more than most people do.

They're perfectly willing to sell out to Saddam.

At least Tony Blair is on the right page...

LONDON — British Prime Minister Tony Blair is trying to rally support for U.S.-led action to topple Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

"This is not just an issue for the U.S. It is an issue for Britain and the wider world. America should not have to face this issue alone," Blair told a news conference in northern England.

Blair signaled his strong support for the Bush administration's stance on Iraq, and risked mounting criticism from his constituents and from within the ranks of his governing Labor Party.
