A mother’s gift of life costs her her own

A young New Lebanon mother is being praised by her family, friends and medical caregivers for sacrificing her own chances of continuing life so that her baby boy could live.

The life of Jennifer "Jenny" Hayes, 22, who died Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton was celebrated during services Monday evening at Rogers Funeral Home in New Lebanon. The story of Jenny's gift — which meant life for her unborn baby but ultimately led to her own death — includes a lot of caring people, many of them nurses who work at Good Sam.

I would also do everything within my power to save the life of my child if it came down to that. After all I have already lived life. "It's the baby's turn now."

A big part of being a parent is being selfless. You become a parent at the moment of conception and can no longer consider only your needs. Pretty simple choice really.

Well, my husband and I had this discussion when I was pregnant.....he asked me what I would have him do if he had to choose between my life or the baby's during delivery.

I feel the same about it now as I did then.
I would lay my life down in a split second for my child without even having to think about it.
