Hey folks.. I got my Mac.

It's a G4 Powerbook running OS 10.2.2.

The typewriter takes a little gettin' used to.

I was over at howarddeanlies.net, and when I hit the ' (apostrophe) key, it came out as a German e with the little chevron over it. Is there a switch I need to toggle?

It seems to be working okay over here..

Thanks,

AMcG

hmm..

Any thoughts?

Go down to your preferences located in the dock. Look for the icon with "Software Update" on it.
Click on this. This should get you up to 10.2.8
Now, if it were me, I would go to 10.3.2 Panther, but that would set you back $100.
You might need a Firmware update. It will tell you if you do. If so, follow the directions closely.
BTW, the finder is SUPERB in Panther. Also, Steve Jobs announced a new IDVD, IPHOTO, and IMOVIE yesterday. Along with a kick butt midi program called Garage Band. The whole suite is $49 I think. I do not know if you will just be able to update the "I" series over the net for free.

roger that.. Thanks, r_y..

I'm off to find a store that's open so I can get a router so we can have our pc and Mac online at the same time.

I live in Portland, OR, and we've been snowed in since Tuesday morning. Everything's closed..

I absolutely LOVE the fact that you just plug stuff into that thing, and everything works.

re: router - make sure you talk to a Mac kinda guy concerning the router. I know my buddy went through hell and back getting one that would make the PC and Mac happy. The issue is not the router, but actually that you are not using a router as that would alert the cable company and you would pay more $$.
From what I understand you will need the Linksys (sp) little blue and white thingy majobber. Again, just talk to the Mac guy.

ironically, the Mac place has the best price on a router, too.

what is the blue/white thing??

btw.. our ISP has told us that having multiple computers doesn't cost any extra.

OK, I screwed up. It is not blue/white, it is blue and black. Here is a link to Ebay where they have one.
My friend has Mac's and PC's on the network and this one works great.
