At least 18 people were killed and many more abducted when Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels launched an attack on a village in Lira District, northern Uganda, on Wednesday night.

Military and local government sources said on Thursday that the attack on Apala village occurred at around midnight. The army spokesman in Lira, Lt Chris Magezi, confirmed the assault and said this was the first time Apala had ever been an LRA target.

"This was an attack on women and children. They abducted people and looted the place of all its food," Local Councillor Joel Otim told IRIN.

Magezi said an army unit had been swiftly deployed to the scene. "Our commanders have not yet verified the deaths. Until they do, we can't be sure," Magezi added.

The LRA have been fighting since 1986 under their leader, the enigmatic Joseph Kony. They say they want to replace the Ugandan government with a theocracy based on the biblical Ten Commandments, but their attacks have mostly targeted civilians in the rural north.

Interesting... I've noticed this type of thing from him before... OLB is usually a good guy whom I've traded some good discussion with.

When it comes to religion, though, it really sets him off and he acts completely different.

As luck would have it I've never really gotten into that area with him.

I think I asked him about it once, though... He got really out of character over a similar issue... Whatever floats the boat I suppose...

Baiting over there has different meanings depending on who is doing the baiting. If 38 stuper is baiting it is legal.If certain mods over there bait its the same way.

Yeah... I hear ya...

A while back 38 was in rare form, popping into any thread throwing out his "Shrub", "Goob", "Pom Pom Girlie" garbage UNCHECKED...

A little later I responded to a post where someone was complaining about feral cats on their property or something... I replied with one of my textbook "It's George W. Bush's fault... Sincerely, 38SUPER" comebacks.

Next thing you know I get censored AND a cute email from "TalkBack Admin" admonishing ME for "BAITING"... WTF???

Depends on who is doing it, actually. And for what reasons and whether those reasons have been sanctified. Baiting is okay over there. If you're a moderator. Just like being "nice" doesn't apply to the self appointed police of nice:

As you can see Gramps will be of no help since he only talks education, he doesnt participate in it.

I have faith that publius will answer it though. He's my go-to guy on lots of this stuff since he is pretty well versed in lots of it and he will actually take the time to educate since he (appears) to want people to understand it.

Now, this same moderator prattles endlessly about "nice" and "don't get personal" when it comes to posts directed at others (specifically, a member he's dating) but he is free to pull the same thing on others. Call him on it and you're banned.

I had the distinct pleasure of cornering this self righteous hypocrite in chat one night, using his own words against him. Everytime I got him in the corner, he changed the subject. He's not fast enough on his mental feet to debate and he bans anyone who can expose him for the fool he is. His authority clearly exceeds his ability to intelligently use it.
