I live not far from Dearborn, MI. Dearborn is the most heavily Arab populated area in the world outside the Middle East. No kidding.

As a result alot of the press here carves out a good portion of Arab-interest type stories and Arab-perspective editorials.

I've seen in several forms over the past year the point made that there are a great number of Middle Eastern people who reside here because they feared retribution up to and including death under Saddam Hussein's rule. They go on to say that they miss their families back home. They haven't seen mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, even children, in years for this fear.

So... Now that we have Hussein under lock and key with no possibility of returning to power, should I expect to see Detroit Metro Airport converged upon by these disenfranchised Iraqi's looking to return to their homeland?

Surely it must be a better place than the United States... They've gone out of their way, in many many cases, to preserve their heritage, even replicate it, here. To the point of refusal to learn our language well enough to converse with the general public. They maintain their own clannish circles and societies. When I'm getting a donut, a tankful of gas, or a shirt dry cleaned I feel oft times the need for an interpreter. They will speak in broken, unintelligable tongue while making change for MY money, and then go back to endless Arabic chatter into the cell phone which, by the way, never left it's location wedged between head and shoulder while I was attempting to transact business thru the bullet-proof glass.

Obviously to re-create that feeling of "home", right?

So... We got the bad guy... Will you go now?

Will you be on the phone shortly to a good real estate agent who can help you quickly get rid of those small, tax-exempt businesses that have made you comfortable via the American Dollar while you suffered our "intolerant" country and missed your loved ones so?

Perhaps you can now return to your homeland to practice medicine where your patients will more aptly understand your every word. Unlike here where, by the way, you obtained the schooling and credentials necessary to obtain that lucrative medical license.

So... Will you go now?

We have opened our doors to you... But they do swing both ways... No one is stopping you from returning to your beloved homeland. We have no Great Wall, no Iron Curtain. And you have citizenship in your home land, unlike your status here, so it should not be difficult at all to hop the next 767 out of here so you can escape this American madness.

So.... Will you be departing then?

What's that? You have some more gas to pump? Some more land to buy? Another home to rent out? A few more cases of whiskey to sell? Some more patients to see? Billing to get done? Need to run to the bank?

I understand... This whole capitalism thing can keep you hopping, huh? What a pain in the neck... It'll no doubt be so much better for you once you've rid yourself of all this boorish culture of ours and can then return home to enjoy the same prosperity as you do here without all the hassle, right?

You can buy that color Cadillac in Baghdad, can't you?

Oh... You're going to stay a while longer? Fine... Cool with us... That's the kind of country we are, right?

But, meanwhile, please refrain from badmouthing my country, my flag, my habits, what I eat, what my wife does and says, and the economic system from which you reap those American dollars.

Appreciate where you are for a change, and act like it.

While you're at it... Take that damned cell phone out of your ear while I'm in your store and THANK ME for my business...

And say it so I can understand it.

Otherwise, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

What in the hell is wrong with you? To completely brush over an entire group of people... All people of arabic descent should be kissing your *** , I'm sorry they do not.

Where did I EVER say "ALL PEOPLE OF ARABIC DESCENT"??? WHERE???!!!

The only "group of people" I "brush over" are those who come to this great nation, reap the benefits of our culture, and then curse it. Added to which, the Arab/Middle Eastern people do not have a monopoly on this.

When did you ever say the distinction of who you were talking about. All I saw was you saying that Arabs badmouth this country and refuse to learn the language which I am almost certain is a complete minority. When you said you saw the point made of people who feared Saddam, give some examples because what you say sounds like complete bull. Myabe because I'm not int the epicenter of anti-americanism as you seem to describe.
