Computer Help

It appears that within the past week or so, I deleted IE totally off of my Sony laptop.

So, I attempted a system restore.....problem is there are no saved points at all during the month of January and only one point in February. So, I attempted the restore for the date in February but that doesn't solve the problem.

I've been running Firefox but am concerned that if I don't have IE on the laptop the computer won't be updated.

Should I be concerned? Can anyone think of a way for me activate a system restore for January. Appreciate any input.

Greetings!

I would try downloading the IE installer and giving it a try... it should have a repair function if vital components are deleted, but I could be wrong.

If there is a problem with the installation, this article may help:

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the information, Jeren. I think I might wait until someone with computer skills is here and I will have them sit with me and try your fix.

(I have no clue how I wiped out IE and if I try it myself, I am bound to do something awful)

Heh...surprising. Microsoft makes it deliberately difficult to remove IE (at least it's possible now). I'm shocked anyone could accidentally do it. You should be able to download the IE7 installer and be fine...as it sounds like you're already going to try.

I did a little digging around and have concluded the presence of IE should have no effect on Windows' Automatic Updating, as long as it is enabled. I don't use the feature and prefer to manually update instead... the idea of Windows doing things like that by itself gives me the creeps.

The only downside is you won't be able to connect to the Microsoft site that scans your system and generates a list of updates and some optional hardware drivers available. You still have an ability to manually update via their Downloads Center, but without intimate knowledge of what you need and already have... it might be a migraine-producing affair.

Anyway, for more info try accessing the below link using FireFox (or any other non-IE browser) and read the nifty message scrawled there gently chiding you on your selection of browser (LOL!):
