Well, I can't say a positive no, but I would think we would have heard about it on the news by now. It'd be kind of hard to get through, though. There's really no need for it and we don't have a formal declaration of war with anyone.

There is no effort to reinstate draft, nor is one needed

Messenger-Inquirer
The June 14 letter by Ellen Hawn about a possible return to the draft is more than a bit disingenuous. In her letter she cites two bills before Congress as "proof" that the government wants to reinstate the draft. In a word-per-word copy of an Internet hoax she fails to mention that both bills were introduced in January 2003, before the war started, and were introduced as scare tactics by Democrats. Neither bill ever made it out of committee and has no chance of becoming law. To quote the Selective Service Web site, http://www.sss.gov, "Selective Service is not getting ready to conduct a draft."
The Army in Desert Storm had 780,000 members, all volunteers. Today it has only 480,000, 40 percent fewer. We had an Army almost twice as large without a draft, so why is one needed now? This is especially true since the military continues to meet all of its recruiting goals. As a 17-year military veteran who just returned from Iraq let me assure you that our volunteer military is highly professional with good morale. A draft is not desired or needed.
The real purpose behind the letter is found in the last sentence where Ms. Hawn urges people to vote Democrat to avoid having a draft. It is a shame that she and her party are so void of ideas that they have to resort to outright falsehoods and Internet hoaxes to try to scare people into voting for them.

Two liberal stinkpots(McDermott and Rangel) would like to reinstate the draft
McDermott Co-Sponsors Legislation to Reinstate the Draft
Washington, DC-- Congressman Jim McDermott has announced his co-sponsorship of Congressman Charles Rangel's legislation to reinstate the military draft and other forms of national service. The bill would require Americans between 18 and 26 to serve two years in the military or in civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security.
The bill, HR 163, is intended to ensure that the burden of military service is not borne disproportionately by the poor and numbers of minority groups.
Congressman McDermott commented that "I believe that if those who are pushing for war knew that their children might be required to share the burden of that war, there might be a greater willingness to work toward peace and a diplomatic solution. If, despite our best efforts, we end up in armed conflict, then fairness dictates that the sons and daughters of all classes participate."
" I am pleased to be an original co-sponsor of Congressman Rangel's bill, McDermott continued. " If we need to re-instate the draft in order to make the Administration consider the chilling consequences of war, so be it. I hope this will make them realize how important a diplomatic solution really is. "
In underscoring the need for broad public discussion about committing troops to conflict, McDermott reiterated his view that it is time to consider a period of compulsory service for every young person in our country. "The draft ended thirty years ago, and since then the sense of obligation as the price of citizenship has faded," he said. I agree with Congressman Rangel that we need to find ways to share the sacrifices associated with committing our country to war, whether it's a campaign against illiteracy, poverty, hunger, or terrorism."
Congressman McDermott served as a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps at the Long Beach Naval Station in California from 1968 to 1970. Congressman Rangel served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1948 to 1952.

Notwithstanding recent stories in the news media and on the Internet, Selective Service is not getting ready to conduct a draft for the U.S. Armed Forces -- either with a special skills or regular draft. Rather, the Agency remains prepared to manage a draft if and when the President and the Congress so direct. This responsibility has been ongoing since 1980 and is nothing new. Further, both the President and the Secretary of Defense have stated on more than one occasion that there is no need for a draft for the War on Terrorism or any likely contingency, such as Iraq. Additionally, the Congress has not acted on any proposed legislation to reinstate a draft. Therefore, Selective Service continues to refine its plans to be prepared as is required by law, and to register young men who are ages 18 through 25.

Thank You Thank You..This is what I thought..I just wasn't sure.. I was sitting here thinking about it more, and I remembered last year I was telling my brother about Rangel and McDermott about what they said, but I knew I hadn't heard anything else since then. But let me tell you he was TICKED OFF, and slamming Bush and the rest and I almost went off too, but before I started WW3 in my house I wanted to make sure. See I'm "diplomatic"
