Ronald Reagan made me realize I'm a conservative

I was a young man when Ronald Reagan was president, and I voted against him twice. I was raised by a state employee who was a self-described socialist so I automatically distrusted any Republican at the time.

During his second term Ronald Reagan won me over. It became apparent to me that he was the best executive I'd seen in my lifetime. I still agree with that to this day. The House bank and post office scandals cemented my political views.. socialists are the enemy and most of them reside on the left side of the aisle. Nowadays there are many on the right side as well, and that pains me greatly.

We need another Reagan-like president very badly. He serves as an example of what a fine commander-in-chief should be, and I miss him. More importantly, our nation suffers without the leadership he provided.

bill14224, welcome to the board, and thanks for sharing.

Ronald Reagan was a rare man, the real deal, and we don't see men like him too often.

I live in California and Ron was Governor so I knew him to be a tough guy who was smart and effective, and he didn't tow the party line, or kowtow to anyone. But I didn't realize what a grand person he was until he became President, he did a fine job and left this world a much better place than he found it. He did it on a grand scale too.

He was a wonderful guy and the world is a poorer place without him.

Bill14224,

I voted for him twice as the son of a city government employee....however my dad was a staunch conservative because of that service. He clearly saw that giving someone something just because they have a certain position was the wrong approach. It was more important to recognize achievement than reward longevity.

I had the pleasure of voting for Mr. Reagan as my very first vote ever, from a military base overseas!

His actions also solidified my beliefs that I was on the right side of the debates.

Welcome to the board, I hope you take the opportunity to voice your beliefs often here.
