I don’t believe that any one man, no matter how well he dresses, or smooth he talks can fix the problems in this country alone. I don’t believe any president be it democrat or republican is the greatest and cannot be replaced. I don’t believe that anyone in congress or senate despite any good intentions, know what their grand plans do to the common working man, no I don’t believe in any of them, but you know what I believe in? I believe in the man who walks in his door a night all covered in grease who has to drag himself across the floor because his little girl is firmly attached to his leg. I believe in the Mommy, who after PTA, soccer, baseball and religious education, lays down next to her little boy softly humming and rocking the bed, running her fingers through his hair as he slowly falls asleep. No I don’t believe in white horses carrying some white night to the rescue, no I don’t believe in that, but I believe in you.



I don’t believe one light bulb is going to stop global warming, I don’t believe it is even a good idea to think we know better than God. I don’t believe that the world will collapse if a few banks fail, I don’t believe that you should take the workers money to fix the corporate mess, but I believe in the grand mother who is working way past retirement, whose bones ache, and body is failing who still fixes chicken an dumplings from scratch because it is her grand son’s favorite. I believe in the grand daddy who stays up late to put the finishing touches on the doll house he is building for his little grand daughter. No, I don’t believe we will solve this mess over night, I don’t believe that government can fix anything, no I don’t believe that, but I believe in you.



I don’t believe you can run a war from the comfort of your office, I don’t believe you can decide our troop’s fate until you have walked a mile in their boots. I don’t believe that any of us are worthy of such love and devotion, that these young men and women would leave their worlds behind to fight for us. But I believe in the soldier, far away from home that has looked at that picture so many times he can see the entire scene in his dreams. I believe in the young man who has just had the shrapnel dug from his spine who is asking the doctor when he can go back. No I don’t believe you talk to a person who has a knife at your neck and you know he will use it, I don’t believe in giving rights to people who planned the destruction of our country, but I believe in the man or woman who wears the uniform, I believe in the ones waiting here at home and I believe in you.



I believe in the dad who coaches little league, the mom who drives the car pool, the grand mother knitting baby boots and the grand daddy who tells the stories, I believe in you. I believe in you, the simple working person, I believe that you in your infinite wisdom, learned from years of hard work and sacrifice know more than all the leaders this nation has had or will ever have and if anyone can turn this mess around it is you. I don’t believe that those whom we elected could ever hold the power that one mother has when she is holding her little baby or lead the country any better than the daddy who takes his son fishing, you hold the power to make or break a nation, you do, not the president, not congress, not senate, but you and that is why I believe in you.
