Oh, yeah, when you drive a good running Six-Pak or Hemi, it's like they're alive. They are absolute animals. Just the sound when you put the hammer on a Six-Pak and all three carbs go wide open, and they start sucking 1,150 cubic feet of air per minute into that motor, and that thing sounds like it's about to inhale the hood, it's incredible. But the Hemi is still the king.

The first Hemi I ever drove was a 68 Charger R/T. It was a real, documented Mr. Norm's Dyno-Tuned car ( ). I got in, fired it off, and we rolled to end of the driveway at the Dodge dealer in Topeka. We had to wait on traffic, and I kicked it into neutral and waited. Traffic finally cleared, and I put it in gear and slowly let the clutch out and rolled into the street. I squeezed on it, and it pulled pretty good, I was fairly impressed, but a little disappointed at the same time. It really didn't pull like I though it should. The owner looks at me and says "Pulls pretty good, huh?" I said yes. He said, "It pulls even better if you start in 1st." I HAD IT IN 3rd GEAR!!! I stop, put it in first, drop the clutch, and that thing just exploded off the line. The rear end kicked left, and then straightened out. Just in time for the next gear. I kept the gas flat on floor, banged 2nd gear, and it was like 1st all over again. She lit the tires, and kicked sideways. I had the wheel cranked over hard right, and she stayed sideways. All the way through 3rd. And 4th. And the whole time, even though I was knocking about 10,000 miles off the back tires every second, it felt like my head was about to be ripped off and tossed into the back seat. Lots of cars are fast. Hemi's are vicious. And that's why I love 'em.

Yeah, they are handy for changing plugs. Which is nice, because they can have an appetite for spark plugs, especially if your ignition is off even a little bit.

I refuse to cut inner fenders and the underchassis in two inch kill me. I build my cars for strip use a little more than street. So with the crate motors (all new parts) it just makes more sense. Something I've wanted to do since I bought the car 16 years ago.

I'd love to have a Tri-Power Ford. I know where there's an early 63 Galaxie boxtop, factory G-code 406 Tri-Power 4-speed, but he absolutely will not sell it.

I had some friends out here one evening, and one thing led to another, and pretty soon, we were racing my two lawn mowers. We ended up blowing them both up. It was pretty funny, until I had to go to town the next day and buy two new riding mowers.
