Will the people of Iraq really be able to build themselves a free society? There are so many autocratic states in that part of the woorld, that I wonder if the people there can even comprehend freedom and might accept any watered-down or skewered version of freedom that was available to them. How will they stop more evil men like Saddam from perverting things there and setting up another autocratic state by abusing the electoral process and hiding behind the words and ideals of freedom?

It's a tough one-I'm not sure that there's much evidence that a democratic system will work for the people of this poor tormented country.

I just hope they have a better future-but there's lots to do yet.

I still believe that the US went into this without enough troops on the ground-it's beginning to show with the anarchy that's broken out and too little manpower to crack down on it.Fingers crossed, things will improve soon.

I trust that peace can come to this area ...

all of the groups suffered , maybe they can use that as their common ground to start building on .....

keep thr Faith .....

read the documents from the American Founding Fathers while this country was being formed , the fighting,name-calling , partisan battles .....
an outsider , looking in , would never believe how well things turned out ....

but , only Iraqi police wil be able to bring things under control ... yes , the US could do it , but , then we're the agressors vs the people ...

Anything is possible if enough people want it.

The indications are that the people of Iraq wanted freedom. They now have that opportunity to squandor or fulfill.

Iraq isn't a poor country so rebuilding would be no problem.

One benefit I see for Iraq is they are not a crazed
country run by finatical clercs like you see in outher places.
Iraq seems more freedom of religon then any others in
the area accept for Israel. I see that as a huge plus.

I can also see Iraq becoming a very important
ally in the war on terrorism.

GOD BLESS AMERICA

Max.

and yes this wasn't constructive..but I dont really care if it disturbs you pink world.. now you stopped waving your flag and start faking a soul.. pfft.. hypocrit.. (this was dedicated to Max)

Anyways.. keep doing what you want..and keep shooting strangers.. thats what your best in.

Kate,
Your're d@mn right I dont care, my troops are much more important to me than theirs, they can burn in hell for all I care, the civilians on the other hand are a different story, they have been liberated and are much better for it, now our task is to help them build a free Iraq, but in the end if civilians are killed in the liberation of an oppressed nation so be it, in my book the ends clearly justify the means, we can feel for them but we can also know it had to be done sonner or later, and thats the truth, if you don't like it tough. it seems the truth hurts you peaceniks, well welcome to reality "people die in war, even the innocent" thats what happens, but in the end we did the right thing, and I'm proud of our troops, you call us hypocrites, well I call you and those that wanted to let Saddam continue to kill, and torture his people COWARDS, as I always have, you did not have the guts to stand up and support the liberation of Iraq and in my book anything you have to say in what happens post-liberation is irrelevant.

go away and let the people with guts do what needs to be done, and when you're country is overrun again, we will liberate you too.

Cobra

Kate, will you ever get yourselves a government that gets it right ?

You choose to fight to break the peace and kill millions. You choose to sit on your hands when fighting would save hundreds of thousands.

And you get the Government you deserve.
