Well this anecdotal story has me convinced!

As I said, yes unemployment is higher in Europe (average only of course, a number of European countries have lower unemployment than the US) but they don't have to worry as much. They don't have the same fears as Americans do when they lose their jobs, such as how to pay for health care and such.

Everyone keeps saying jobs will be created, let's hope it's soon. Every time they post job numbers they seem to disappoint.

Which results in the classic work ethic of the French, the Spanish, the Italians...need I go on? Isn't this what FDR calls "the narcotic of welfare?"

Don't BS us on how its not true, I know exactly what a Mediterranean work day is!

Not an indicator of the strength of the economy, and a recovery must happen, as it is, before jobs are created.

Good for you BAH!!

I have a brother-in-law that has been out of a job (minus piddly odd jobs) for almost two years. He is basically taking care of the kids so my sister can work.

The difference between you and him is: you took the lay of as a setback, but more importantly as an opportunity to grow and overcome. My brother-in-law saw it as a sentence and an opportunity to become stagnant.

It is because of stories like yours that I feel like there are jobs for those who have the work ethic and courage to adapt and achieve. Those who choose to limit themselves also choose to limit their success.

I know! 35 hour work weeks, 6 weeks of vacation, and they usually have to find you another job before they lay you off! Sounds like heaven to me, though of course they pay less which is my biggest complaint. And the taxes. The price they pay for happier work life I guess.

I already said the economy is doing fine, we were talking about jobs, or rather the lack of job creation. I think the economy has recovered quite well, but jobs are lacking longer than anyone anticipated.

Of course the tax cuts aren't working.
They're only for the rich people who're already having a hard time spending their endless amount of money.

I'd rather be unemployed than work at McDonald's.
In these times, there is nothing to achieve, succes is a shadow from the past. A lost dream that echoes the naive conceptions of the past.

Well, there's your problem. Pride. You see everyone who works at McDonalds as losers and you'd rather welch off of other people's hard earned money.

And that is exactly what real losers believe.

Laziness will get you nowhere but you will realize it when you grow up.

Then the next time you get the munchies after you have smoked "marihuana", walk to the nearest McDonalds and pick food out of the dumpster.

Just making fun of generalized & stereotypical commentary...
As you can see, it contributed just as much to the debate as the previous comment!
