Now before you accuse me of going soft, let me tell you something...I think that the DU is made up of raving lunatics and most of them have absolutely zero compassion despite their prostrations that they do, however I'm very familiar with this person and while our political views were never in agreement...he reminds me of "curious" as he was always respectful and thoughtful in his posts...truth be known, he recieved far more grief on the DU in the form of insults because he was one of the few voices of reason in a sea of insanity. Some times we (especially me) get caught up in the game of politics and we forget to appreciate our fellow man. Mike and I never met, nor did we speak...but when I read the DU, he (like curious) gave me hope and showed me that people could disagree and still be respectful.

Posted on the DU
Yesterday, we received word that a member of the DU family has passed away. Mike McArdle was a prolific writer of articles for the DU homepage. He has been writing for us since the very beginning of DU under his real name, and under the pseudonym "birdman." In his articles, he had the unique ability to make us think and make us laugh, and has probably written more exclusive articles for DU than anyone else, except Auntie Pinko and Bob Boudelang. He also posted on the message board under the username birdman.
We do not know the details of his passing. The email from his brother-in-law says that he died on Friday, November 14, while at work. We had published his last article on DU, "The Bombshell that Bombed," only three days before. We are republishing that article below, in its entirety, along with links to his other published works.
Many of us met Mike at a DU gathering in Philadelphia in early 2002. He was very warm, friendly, and witty. A true American patriot. He will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.

I'm sorry for Mike's passing and I realize in his passing what an asset people like him and curious are.
