I have recently been assigned a question for my poli sci class, and I have no idea where to start. The question is: Describe how the relationship between the states and the National Government has changed since President Reagan was elected. The emphasis will be on the role of politics.

Where could I find this type of information? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Reagan believed in reversing the power that the federal government had usurped throughout the years and returning it to the states and local level. In other words he believed that states and local governments could better allocate and spend money and resources better than one giant centralized federal government could. Local and state governments could not only allocate and spend money wiser and better, but they could react quicker.

I would suggest that you google Reagan "States Rights"

I also suggest reading Reagan's philosophy starting here.

And continue from there.

...and I would add one RR´s quote which I think is simple and genial on the topic:

"Government is the people's business and every man, woman and child becomes a shareholder with the first penny of tax paid."

Even though nowadays even the rights of stockholders are sometimes get in question...
