I'm interested in this subject Paul. Right now I've got too much "real life" work in front of me to do it justice. But if I get a chance i'll post my own thoughts on it later. It is an important subject.

Just didn;t want you to think the lack an immediate reply from me means a lack of interest.

Socialized medicine is a mistake.

I grew up in Canada where socialized medicine has been a way of life forever.

Just like every other "program" with "social" in front of it, it's a miserable failure.

If you want to see what goverment medicine would be like, walk into a VA Hospital.

Look at our government housing programs in large cities.

Running a capitalist system is better, and works everytime it's tried.

nuff said.

I'd been wanting to find a topic to ask this in: What did Reagan do to help Americans with health care? I'm no big supporter of Medicare / Medicaid / Medical (CA Only) and the fact that it's rampant with fraud; but what did he want to do to help those who needed health care but just couldn't afford what they needed w/ or w/o insurance?

Thanks

Emo,
I think your question is missing a couple of important words that make it difficult to reply to: "What did (xxxx) to help Americans with health care?"

<font color="Purple" c>Whenever I read an article about some liberal, concerned about the increasingly conservative direction that America appears to heading  and packing up and moving to Canada so that they may marry their same-sex partner, or for the national medical program, I can't say that I'm sorry to see them go, but I do wonder what the native Canadians think of this.
Mark my words; they will be back when they need medical care. Not one SARS death in this great United States.

How would I curb the costs of Health Care in the US?

I would start off by making it extremely difficult for patients to sue their doctors for malpractice.

Second, I would limit the rewards allowed by these costs (somehow).

Those two things would reduce the costs of malpractice insurance, and therefore, reduce the cost to the doctor. With a reduced cost to him, he would reduce his costs to his patients.

As far as medicine costs go, I would reduce the costs these pharmaceutical companies need to spend to get their new drugs approved. That would reduce the costs to the consumer.

So, to sum up.. What have we learned? The reason health costs are so high is because of goverment. How do we fix it? By putting the whole ball o' wax under governemnt?

Certainly not.

Government health care sucks so much, some military people pay for additional coverage in addition to their "total" coverage. Do we really need to say more?
