The Article
Like so many other articles in popular secular magazines, this comes so close to the truth yet is also so far away.

How can people know so much about Him, but not know Him personally?

I wish I knew the absolute truth. But then I remind myself that I'm a mortal human being.

You see, for me it's an easy question.
The answer is...He was born.
The "Christ" is not something he "achieved" or "earned" in and of Himself. It's not something we as a His followers decided to call Him or ascribe to Him.
It is who He WAS and IS. I am not a man because that is what I worked to become or achieved. I am not a man because that is what people over a long period of time have decided to make me. I am a man because that is who I am. It is my nature to be a man.
Likewise, it was Jesus' nature to be Christ, the annointed one, the Messiah.

Sonny, you can know the absolute truth regardless of your mortal status. Jesus IS the truth. And you can know Him because He has made Himself known through His word, His Holy Spirit, and even creation itself testifies of Him.

Sonny, Racca is right you can know the absolute truth. Jesus was all God and all man. since he was god he could not sin and since he was man he was the perfect sactrifice for us. He is THE way THE truth and THE life and no one can get into heaven but by Him. He came, lived a sinless life, died a horible death on a cross, but the best part is that he rose again 3 days later.
And your right, we are mortal beings but God sent his one and only son to die for us, we sin all the time and deserve to die and go to hell and burn forever. no one is perfect, only Jesus was perfect and he died in our place. He took on our sins and He was obedient to death, even death on a cross. if you look back in history to Roman times (around 33 AD) you will see that crusifiction was a type of death reserved for the worse criminals, for murderes and theives. But Jesus had done nothing wrong and he could have called 10,000 angels down to take out the people who killed him, but he didn't, he could have saved himself, but he didn't.

Geeze. I'm a little bit ornery on occasion, and I've occasionally done things I'm not real proud of. But nothing to make me deserve to burn in hell forever.
There are some people who deserve that fate, but the vast majority of people I know or have come across in life certainly don't deserve it either, regardless of their religious convictions or lack of them.

Yet here you seem to be saying that it is "wrong" for people to go to Hell. Hmmm... you can't have it both ways. Moreover, on whose authority can we say something like "the vast majority of people I know ... don't deserve it either"? Hmmm...
Hell is a topic I struggle over too Curious. I honestly don't like the thought that sinners would be punished forever. I have been an aspiring universalist for some time now, but reason and Biblical authority both go against universal salvation. I think we have to keep two things in mind: 1) most of us know the way to salvation through Jesus Christ, so if we choose for some reason to reject God's mercy it is our own decision to be punished forever. Those who don't have the opportunity to hear the Gospel are judged differently than we are. See the book of Romans for details. 2) our judge is perfect. If a human being were to sentence people to eternal damnation, that would be an outrage. Imperfect beings have no authority to to deliver that sort of eternal judgment. However, a perfect God who sent His son to experience the trials and temptations of human life, to show the way to eternal salvation, and who has given us the miracles of the ressurection, the church, and innumerable saints has the authority to judge us.
In short, thank God for Jesus Christ, who can save even a sinner like me.

God is merciful and loves us but he cannot be in the presence of sin. Even if we lied just once in our entire life, we still have sinned and God cannot even look at sin because he is perfect. But that is why he sent Jesus in our place, to die for us and he will, if we ask him, forgive and forget our sins and if you ask Jesus to be your Lord and savior God will look at you and see his son. I will not back down from my statement earlier not matter how much critisism I get. We ALL deserve hell and eternal death and seperation from God but Jesus is that gift all we have to do is accept it. Like at christmas or your birthday, if your parents or one of your friends gave you a gift one that you had always wanted, you wouldn't say, no Thanks, I don't want it. would you?

I don't even think God excists, I think humans made him up in order to receive a friendlier relationship with death and to be able to stop asking the question "why?".
I've never noticed him in my life and I guess I never will. Yhe evolution is much more likely to have actually taken place and with today's science, who could deny it?
