We are grateful for the life of Ronald Reagan. His kindness was extended to me many times. Working in the media WBOW Radio in Indiana, I learned about a child who was in need of a kidney transplant but his parents were destitute. We were asking the community to raise funds for the operation. I contacted the White House to see if President Reagan would record an announcement to help raise funds for this child. In my heart, I figured he was too busy, but I was mistaken. He recorded the message and we raised enough money for the operation. After his presidency, I asked him to appear on ESPN Radio. It was the very first weekend of the network. Mike Utley, of the Detroit Lion was paralzed during a game, and I asked President to recount the gipper story for Mike. The President went on to tell Mike what an inspiration he had been to the rest of the country. Mike Utley was in tears during the conversation. God Bless President Reagan.
