In watching the ceremonies before we left to work and school this morning, my 9 year old daughter saw all the fuss and asked me a very important question.
"Daddy, what made him so great?"
My answer was simple, and came immediately. In the short answer, I summed up President Reagan's greatness.
"Sweetie, there used to be this thing called communism."
The very fact that she had never even heard of such a thing spoke of the tremendous achievements of a great man.
I went on to explain the horrors of communism in terms a 4th grader could understand, and I believe she got a small taste of the appreciation her parent's generation, and her parent's parent's generation had for President Reagan.
Now, I understand communism still exists in a few nations around the earth, but their threat is no where near the threat it was before Jan 20, 1981.
This country and this planet is a better, safer place because of President Reagan.
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.
