Thumbs up

I remember the ad for this back a few years ago featuring Tom Hanks at Walmart and the malls, but then I just forgot about it until now.
Thanks to all that made this possible, but mostly to the Veterans that it finally immortalizes!
Quote:
“My only question is, why did it take 60 years? We’ve already lost half of the veterans that this monument is honoring,” said Lou Gentile, a World War II veteran from New Britain, Conn., who runs the veteran services office for the city. He said he hopes to someday make the pilgrimage down to Washington, D.C., to see the new monument.

“We’ve become an endangered species,” he added.
Thanks Gramps!

I actually wrote a letter to the editor of the Daily Oklahoman in 2001 or so. The main point was that we (Oklahoma City) were spending millions on a gawdy memorial to 167 killed in the OKC bombing. Not to downplay it, but 400,000+ were killen WWII and we were dragging our feet on that memorial after 60 years.
I am ELATED to see that this is finally finished. I cannot wait to take my kids.

It's too understated; the eagles baldecchino is too hiden(you have to get under it to discern its design) it's small scale makes it look like it belongs on a university campus; it's an apology of a memorial, at best.

now this memorial is more like what a victory memorial should be:
